Nate Oats has inked two new players this offseason.  Both David Kadiri and Willie Conner are set to join the University at Buffalo men’s basketball team, coming from junior colleges with two years of eligibility remaining.

Now, Oats has his sights set on another newcomer, a 6-3 guard from Dallas, Texas who will graduate from South Oak Cliff High School in a number of weeks.  Massinburg recently took an official visit to Buffalo this past weekend.

As a senior, the combo guard averaged 24 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 4.3 assists, resulting in Offensive MVP in the district, All-State 5A and All-Region honors, along with a Third Team All-Area selection.  He led the 5A district in total points and was named the Dallas vs. Tarrant County All-Star Game MVP.

Massinburg has had family play basketball at the University of Albany but he has never actually been to the state of New York. He still sees a great opportunity in Western New York.

“In Buffalo I see an opportunity,” Massiburg said via text this past weekend.  “An opportunity to be apart of something great. I’ve never been to New York and have never been this far away from home . But life and basketball will take you places you’ve never been before.”

The high school senior has gotten it done on and off the floor this year.  He currently possesses a 3.0 grade point average and ranks 13th in his graduating class.  He takes pride in his ability to lead his team by example.

“I consider myself a leader on and off the court,” he said.  “I led my team and they followed.”

Massinburg has not been offered by Buffalo yet.  He has interest from Prairie View, Mississippi Valley, and a number of Junior Colleges.
